FARM GATE TO DINNER PLATE 2020
This is an interactive learning opportunity for Grade 3 and 4 students to learn where their food comes from before it gets to the grocery store shelf.
There will be live animals, real farmers, and hands-on activities with a focus on agriculture in the Hamilton area.

The goal of the Farm Gate to Dinner Plate education days is to have students learn more about how their food is produced. Activities will include topics related to food, nutrition, farming, environment and other agricultural issues. Each student will rotate through a series of interactive presentations. It is a full day with the students visiting all stations. Please note the children will visit a barn area with animals.
It is hoped that teachers will spend time in the classroom prior to this education day, discussing general aspects of food production, so the students will have some awareness of their food before they attend. Each teacher will receive a teacher’s kit with information on local commodities and in-class curriculum based teaching aids for follow-up to their trip.
In addition, during a nutrition break apples will be handed out and at lunch, cartons of milk will also be provided for each student.

Registration is on a first come first served basis and is limited to 275 students each day. There will be assistance to help with bussing costs for those schools registering prior to December 15, 2019. There is no cost to participate in the ‘Farm Gate to Dinner Plate’ education day.
