Scholarship Program

The Ancaster Agricultural Society is pleased to be able to support continuing education by offering a scholarship for post secondary studies. The Ancaster Agricultural Society Scholarships will be awarded to two qualified individuals who are pursuing post secondary education in a course leading to a degree or diploma.

ELIGIBILITY

Any full-time student at a post-secondary institution registered in a course leading to a degree or diploma, who is a resident in the City of Hamilton.

Also, must meet at least one of the following to qualify:

–         Ancaster Agricultural Society Volunteer

–         Ancaster Agricultural Society Exhibitor

–         Junior Farmer Member

–         4-H Member

Type a short essay on the following topic:

“Why is Agriculture Important to the Ancaster Agricultural Society”

RULES

Each applicant will type a short essay based on the following question: “Why is Agriculture important to the Ancaster Agricultural Society?”

Forward essay to the Ancaster Agricultural Society, 630 Trinity Road, R.R. #1 Jerseyville, ON  L0R 1R0  tammy@ancasterfair.ca

Each application must be accompanied by the following:

–         The most recent transcript of the applicants’ marks

–         A letter confirming the applicant’s involvement in agricultural affairs (non family member)

–         A letter of character reference (from a non family member)

Applications must be received by June 30 of the year of the application. Scholarships will be announced prior to August 31. Money will only be forwarded upon proof of acceptance to a post-secondary institution.

PROCEDURE

A selection committee comprised of the 5 past-presidents of the Ancaster Agricultural Society and the Homecraft Division will judge the applications.

All applications must be forwarded to the Ancaster Agricultural Society office and the envelopes are to remain sealed.

Applications are to be opened on July 1st by the Secretary-Treasurer. All personal information about the applicant will be concealed, therefore allowing the application to be judged anonymously.

The panel of judges will meet the first or second week in July.

Money will be forwarded upon proof of payment of tuition to the post-secondary school.

The official presentation of the scholarship will be at the Annual Awards Banquet of the Ancaster Agricultural Society.
