The Ancaster Agricultural Society is a non-profit volunteer run organization. Although you don’t have to be a member to volunteer with the society, it’s the A.A.S. members who provide the core of the volunteer base, and the Board of Directors and executive are elected from the membership by the membership, and of course there are perks to membership. For your $15 membership fee you get entrance to the fair and are not required to pay an exhibitor fee. In return we ask all our members to serve on a committee of the fair and to volunteer in some capacity during the annual fair weekend or at any of our other opportunities throughout the year.  Volunteering can take place in a large variety of ways, check out the committee list and the volunteer section to see the opportunities.

Ancaster Fair

The Ancaster Agricultural Society opened its doors on April 11, 12, 2017, to over 630 Elementary Students in Grades 3 & 4 from across the Hamilton area at the Ancaster Fairgrounds. The event was called "Farm Gate to Dinner Plate". Its goal was to have students learn about how their food is produced and livestock is raised in the Hamilton area. This event was run by volunteers of the Ancaster Agricultural Society and the Hamilton Wentworth Agricultural Community. Hands-on learning activities supported the Grade 3-4 curriculum. The students rotated through a series of interactive presentations featuring live animals, grain production, bee keeping, soil and worms, planting a vegetable garden, maple syrup production, dairy production, horse shoeing, technology in agriculture, safety equipment used in everyday life, and antiques - water pumps and corn shelling. Each teacher received a teacher's kit with information on local commodities and in class curriculum based aids for follow-up to their trip. The Ancaster Agricultural Society would like to thank Foodland Ontario for partnering with them in support of the "Farm Gate to Dinner Plate" program, to the Homecraft Ladies for making the lunch, the Hamilton-Wentworth Dairy Producers for donating the milk, Carluke Orchards, Josmar Acres, and Bennett's Apples & Cider for donating apples. A huge Thank-You! to all the volunteers that made this event happen and all the presenters for their amazing interactive educational presentations. ...
